WYFP - Happy New Year

Sunday night begins the holiday of Rosh Hashannah, and the Jewish New Year begins.  Rosh Hashannah is the mythical anniversary of the creation of Adam and Chava, this year will be 5783.

I actually forgot about how close the holiday was until Friday when I sent out a panicked email to my professors telling them I would not be in Monday and Tuesday.  I have a little bit of work to do Sunday before the holiday starts, but I should manage it all right.

Rosh Hashannah is a time of celebration and reflection.  Between Rosh Hashannah and Yom Kippur ten days later are days of penitence, where people ask each other for forgiveness for any misdeeds in the past year, give extra tzadukah and generally are subdued.

One of the cooler traditions of Rosh Hashannah is tasting new fruits.  Many families go out of their way to find fruits not normally eaten to make the blessings on. I like dragonfruit myself, and only eat it at Rosh Hashannah.

I will be attending services on zoom, but I will be driving to Metarie for Yom Kippur with my friend Bee, we will be staying at a hotel like we did for our being called to the Torah.

I think it’s time for me to get back into the swing of things with being observant more to more on a daily basis — at least going back to putting on tefillin every day.  We will see about doing more than that.

So happy new year!  May we all be remembered for a sweet and blessed new year. How was your week?
