WYFP? - Water Woes

WYFP

So I’m dogsitting for friends while they are in Los Cabos getting tan and having a good time.  Since it’s a long stay (9 days) I brought the cat me over here — and everyone is getting along just fine.

Yesterday, I went to go check on the boat as the drains have been a bit slow and it had been raining — and found the interior floor ankle deep in gross bilge water.

So near as I can tell, the bilge pump was overwhelmed when the engine hatch flooded from the cockpit.  The water is not the full length of the cabin sole, but enough that it’s going to be a pain in the ass to clean up.  I tried using the port’s electric pump and it wasn’t quite deep enough to work, so I pumped out some by hand before I had to close up — after turning off the outlet power and picking the heater and powerbars out of the water.  The carpet is ruined, the water is ooky and I had to drive to Portland today rather than finish cleaning it up because I have surgery coming up in February.

So I’m down at least 2 power bars, a heater, the carpet, a bilge pump and anything that might have fallen into the water.  The earliest I can replace things is next month, if then, and I have chest surgery on the 2nd, so I won’t be able to work on the boat for probably at least a couple weeks.

Tomorrow is supposed to be sunny, so I am going over to pump out the rest of the water, throw out the carpet and clean the insulating mats that are under the carpet and deck before putting them back.  My friends won’t be back until Tuesday — and there is more rain in the forecast, so I have to get those drains cleared to keep it from happening again.

That’s my frelling problem, a flooded sailboat and upcoming surgery.

What’s up with you?
