"Let's trim our hair in accordance with the socialist lifestyle",

So North Korea says that long hair is unhealthy and adversely affects "human intelligence development". If so then Idiocracy must be what socialism looks like.

Exactly how ready can one be for a haircut. And other than being neurotic about how I looked, it seems that some places have not been ready to hire me; they continue to lack interest, If they’re too lazy to look beyond key words, then perhaps it’s not worth working there, OTOH, no income...

Haven’t yet given up and let my hair grow to unruly proportions, even though it really has never been like my late father said “a life of quiet desperation”.

Haven’t really gotten around to asking why I haven’t given up. So it’s still a FP, trying to put together a writing portfolio, thinking about “thinking about” my employment problems.

I cut my own hair these days, unhappy to have lost my regular stylist to lack of money, and trying not to look too unpresentable or intentionally appearing edgy.

Fortunately, I never have to worry about the cost of political haircuts even as the below socialist examples seem pretty costly.

Instead of waiting to make a hair appointment at a salon that would charge me too much for a haircut that would take too long during a time frame that would be too far away, I found a pair of scissors under my bathroom sink and got right to it. Well, I almost did, but as the sharp blade came closer and closer to my face, I remembered that I’d never cut my own hair. Oh dip. Maybe I should do some research…

It’s important to take breaks in every activity you put your mind to. The brain needs periodic respite from exhausting challenges. You can quote me on that.

You'll probably need to see a pro anyway.

If you're cutting your own hair to spend less, think again. "Frequently, the end result of a DIY cut is uneven ends and a bad cut that always needs fixing," warns Maciques, meaning you'll wind up paying a salon to make it look decent. Even worse: If your cut needs fixing, you'll probably have to cut it even shorter than your original goal.

The Moral of the Story

Your best bet for a great cut: Find a reputable stylist, bring along the right reference material, and be honest about what you want. DIY-ing your hair will only end in tears — or really, really bad bangs.

Francois Hollande, President of France

French President Francois Hollande's coif — dark, thinning on top — hasn't really been a subject of conversation, until now. He's facing a scandal after it emerged that he pays a hairdresser nearly $11,000 (9,895 euros) every month.

The scandal, which has been dubbed #CoiffeurGate, was first reported by French satirical and investigative newspaper Le Canard Enchaine. French government spokesman Stephane Le Foll later confirmed the story and "tried to defend his boss," according to The Associated Press.

"I can understand the questions, I can understand that there are judgements," said Le Foll, as AFP reported. "Everyone has their hair done, don't they?"

The amount Hollande pays his personal hairdresser is roughly the same as a government minister's salary, according to The New York Times. The job comes with significant responsibilities: the hairdresser is "committed to secrecy and needs to be available 24/7," France 24 reported.

North Korean state television is showing a series of programmes instructing shabbily coiffured men on the personal grooming required of a citizen of the vehemently anti-capitalist state.

The five-part series, entitled "Let's trim our hair in accordance with the socialist lifestyle", exhorted them to opt for one of several officially sanctioned haircuts, including the crew cut and the "high, middle and low" styles. Hair should be kept between 1cm and 5cm in length and should be trimmed every 15 days, it said.

But even the world's most conformist state is prepared to allow a little flair in special cases: men over 50 may grow their hair to the positively bohemian length of 7cm (2.75in) on top to hide the effects of balding.

The TV series, which began last year as part of the regular Common Sense programme, claimed that long hair is unhealthy and adversely affects "human intelligence development".
