Another week gone, and it’s time to pick classes for fall. I looked over my degree plan and picked some classes I wanted, and got told off by my advisor for having too many “non-degree” classes — that will actually count toward my degree because I need 18 hours of 300/400 classes. I’ve actually finished all my major courses, and I have an advisor from my minor who set me up for the next 2 semesters on what I need to take — and I just felt like going for 15 this semester.
So I’m taking the class on 1922 literature and art by a professor I like, and I’m taking creative writing. I’m also taking stats, psychology of sexuality, and an American pre-history class by another professor I like, my advisor. He’s not a great advisor, but he is a good teacher.
I’ve got class space to fill in now to stay full time, so I have a feeling I will get to branch out a little more later on as well. I haven’t gotten my financial aid package yet, but I did fill out my FAFSA early so it shouldn’t be too long now before I get my offers, and hopefully it will cover my tuition without loans. Mum needs a new roof on her house, so I don’t want to have to ask her for money, though I’m extremely hesitant to take loans again until grad school.
I need to have at least 12 hours a semester — I have to be full time to qualify for grants — and sometimes the classes I need aren’t offered, as was the case with linguistics that I’m taking now — it’s not offered very often because we have a tiny department. That was my last required class for my major, now I can just take stuff like the pre-history that interests me.
I’m still sucking at math — I dropped algebra because I was failing again — even with tutors, and I have to pass it to graduate. They say that the third time is the charm, so I will try again in the spring of next year and do the 5 hour class again, it was better than the 3 hour. I’m a little worried about stats, but we’ll see what happens.
