Another week gone by and the semester moves forward. I’ve been struggling with the sheer volume of materials this semester, between 3 higher division seminars and two science classes it’s been a bit rough. But I think I cracked it a little this week.
My anthropology classes are interesting, but really challenging. Anthropology has a really ugly racist past, and that has been the focus of anthropology theory so far. Cultural Resource Management is covering the laws related to public archaeology and it’s, well — boring. And racist, like a lot of things in America.
Both of those classes have heavily weighted participation grades, and until this week I haven’t really felt like I was getting the material, and I struggled with the written assignments. Not horribly, I got Bs, but that’s not really what I want for my major classes.
I think I have cracked the writing though, and maybe the participation as well, I finally got 10/10 rather than 8/10.
Other than that it’s been all right — we have Monday-Wednesday off this coming week for Mardi Gras. I don’t have any interest in Mardi Gras myself, but I will take the days off to review. We have a particularly information heavy geology module, concerning the development of life on earth and the massive ecological disasters in between the ages. So squishy things, giant bugs, ice ages and rocks, no wonder I like this class so much, it appeals to my inner 5 year old.
