WYFP - I Can Breathe!

So it’s been a week.  I had an asthma flare up and thought it was covid — went and got a test and everything, ended up getting some prednisone, so my breathing is much better. I also had some schoolwork this week that was a bit of a struggle — I just could not bring myself to do my geology lab homework.  Put it off for half the week and played video games instead.  I did finally get it done, and got 100% on it — but I can’t let that happen again, it’s too important to pull as close to a 4.0 I can. (No pressure, right? LOL)

I did get my speech in last week, literally at the last possible minute due to technical difficulties, but I think I did ok, we get our grades back on Monday. I’m also going to get a few bonus points by reviewing my own speech with a checklist provided by our teacher, and I figure any extra points is going to help — and I got a 92 on the exam for that class as well. So I’m probably ok on the grade front as much as I worry about it.

On the job front I got a reply from the professor that asked for my availability on an upcoming job, which was good, I hope I get a few days out of the 2 week project. Any day would be a help, but all my available days would be a miracle for my pocket — around $600 after taxes, which is below the line where it would impact my SSDI. It might screw up my SNAP, but one of the things I would like to do with that money is to buy some more kosher meat, so it would balance out. (I can’t get kosher meat on SNAP anyway, no local store carries it, and the kosher grocer in New Orleans doesn’t accept SNAP)

I’m teaching a friend a class once a week on some of the basic prayers in Hebrew, which is really cool and going well. I like talking to her and we spend more time talking than learning, but it’s all good, I think what the rabbi wanted was us to socialize as Jews, and the prayer lesson was really an excuse. LOL

I also started a Hebrew reading course through my shul, and that looks to be a good thing. I don’t actually read that well since I am mildly dyslexic, and everyone prayed too fast at my old shuls for me to really sound things out, so Hebrew phonics is helping. I’m looking forward to the next class.

I do have a speech coming up in 2 weeks that I am worried about, it’s my speech on being Jewish without community — and I have some hesitation around that as well. I have to turn in a formal outline with sources, and there really aren’t a lot talking about how to Jew by yourself, it’s really a community oriented faith.  But I’m sure I will find something, I just have to break out the old Google Fu and see what I can find.  It took me hours to do the last speech, just saying it over and over again, and I now know I cannot wait until the last minute to record the next one. I actually perform well under pressure, but I suffer for it afterwards.

Still stressing about the election, though I know my ballot has been received, it’s just a matter of being patient — which I am not very good at.

My brother is NOT getting out of prison, and I’m relieved. The idea of having to deal with him every time I want to visit or talk to Mum was not cool. He also feels no remorse for what he did and considers it a “victimless crime”— but it’s not really. And I know he won’t get the therapy he needs to deal with his issues, he would rather drink and do coke. So yeah, probably dodged a bullet because he fucked up his paperwork.

So yeah. Been a busy week, but over all pretty good. Going to run out now and do some shopping before Shabbat and then it’s back to the school grind on Sunday.

So how was your week?
